Seaside Centre face-painting: 4-5:30pm (I need a half hour to face paint Caravan Paradiso)
Carnival Parade to Hackett Park: Sunset (6pm)
Back by popular demand, the Halloween-inspired street parade of Latina Catrina’s, pagan forest people, roving minstrels, and other ghoulish characters (anyone can join the parade) will rendezvous at the Seaside Centre for face-painting and then walk to Hackett Park for an evening of carnival sounds and scary sights. The gypsy-inspired Caravan Paradiso quartet (Anna Lumiere, Graham Ord and friends) will perform their magic along with the dance of the Wicked Witches, the multi-talented Cool Heat fire dancers, and a very special Shadow Circus performance.
The Shadow Circus Puppets present “La Llorona”.
Circus-artist Gerardo Avila and his team of puppeteers will present the folkloric Latin tale of Malinche, a tormented historical Mayan woman who battled for her people during the Spanish conquest of Cortez. Her transformation from villain to hero is told through mime, shadow theatre, and the arresting vocals of Suzanna Williams singing La Llorona (The Crying Woman). This popular Mexican ballad has become synonymous with the annual Nov. 1 celebration of el Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).
